The pension system in the Republic of Croatia has gone through numerous unfavorable periods during its development, which led to several pension reforms. The paper aims at a detailed elaboration of the foundation of Croatian pension system, its contents and description and in particular at the notion of invalidity pension. The paper explains condition which an insured person must fulfill in order to claim invalidity pension rights, as well as the required procedure and the term 'temporary invalidity pension'. Besides persons with physical invalidity, persons with psychological invalidity can also claim right to invalidity pension provided all the required conditions are met. Psychological health is a less discussed topic due to the social stigma and shame that comes with it, especially in the context of growing number of young people being unable to work for mental health reasons. The Homeland war has also had great influence on the pension system leaving a great number of invalidity pension users behind. There are many more other causes that put us at the top of the European list when it comes to invalidity pension users. The paper describes and presents this situation in detail.
