Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, autoimmune disease characterized by an inflammatory response in the connective tissue of joints and bones, as well as internal organs. The disease is believed to be caused by an unknown factor, and genetic predisposition, an abnormal autoimmune response, or a viral or bacterial infection are considered to be the "trigger" for the disease. The primary process begins in the synovium, which is caused by constant inflammation, and as the disease progresses, cartilage and bone are destroyed, which leads to permanent changes in the joint. Because of this, the joints become less flexible and mobile and characteristic arthritic deformities appear, which negatively affects the patient's ability to work and quality of life. If the disease is not treated, the increasingly mutilated and destroyed bones will take on a different appearance and experience a complete loss of function. Kinesitherapy (medical exercises) and methods of physical therapy aimed at preserving the functional capacity of patients also play an important role in treatment. The aim of this study was to examine the quality of life of people with rheumatoid arthritis by collecting data on age, sex, and current disease status based on data obtained through anonymous questionnaires filled out by patients coming to the Reference Center for Rheumatology of the Daily Hospital Zagreb.
