Epicondylitis humeri is an enthesitis that occurs on enthesis of the caput commune hand extensor and fingers on the lateral epicondyle called lateral or radial epicondylitis or the enthesis of the caput commune flexor on the medial epicondyle called medial or ulnar epicondylitis. Clinical sign is typical, it starts with a feeling of strain and then pain and swelling appear. Due to overstraining, vascularization in the affected area reaches lower level and the nervous endings become hypersensitive, resulting in aseptic inflammation, and further repetition of harmful movements leeds to an angiofibroblastic hyperplasia of the affected enthesis. Lateral epicondylitis occurs 7-10 times more often than medial epicondylitis. Clinical diagnosis is fundamental and most important, out of other diagnostic methods most frequently used are roentgenogram, ultrasound, computerized tomography, bone scintigraphy, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and diagnostic arthroscopy. Treatment for the overstressing syndrome is most often non-operative and involves the use of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs, corticosteroid injection and physical therapy. Physiotherapy exercises include stretching exercises and eccentric muscular strengthening exercises, and various physical procedures such as shock wave therapy, laser, ultrasound, TENS and other electroprocesses. Physioterapeutic evaluation should be performed prior to physical therapy. The aim of the paper is to show the problem of medial and lateral epicondylitis and to show the forms of treatment.
