Basketball is one of the most popular physical activities in the world. Approaching the topic of basketball injuries is complex because basketball is a sport played around the world, played by both sexes and played from childhood to veteran age, and from school and recreational to professional levels. Based on the research on basketball injuries, it can be concluded that, in all age groups and at all levels of competition, the most attention is paid to injuries to the lower extremities, the most common being the incidence of an ankle injury and the most serious in relation to length of absence from the activity a knee injury. In professional basketball players, the most common type of injuries are sprains and hyperextensions, and the most common location of the injury is the ankle and knee, incidence of head injuries is specific to children, and the anterior cruciate ligament injury to women. The most common preventive interventions for basketball injuries are trunk stability exercises, plyometric exercises, and single-leg proprioception, with an emphasis on proper movement performance. Preventive interventions in basketball teams reduce the incidence of basketball injuries, regardless of age, gender or competition level, but data are lacking on the exact specific interventions that affect specific injuries.
