Local self-government is a form of organization and integration processes in which a community of people lives. Legally speaking, local self-government is below the level of local self-government. The main purpose of introducing the institute of local self-government is to involve citizens in decision-making on matters that are of local importance and affect the quality of life. The Institute of Local Self-Government ensures the participation, ie the presence of citizens in the exercise of power and enables direct communication with local self-government bodies. In the legal sense, local self-government in the Republic of Croatia is regulated by the Law on Local and Regional Self-Government, and the Constitution of the Republic of Croatia. The municipality of Stari Jankovci is located in the central area of Vukovar-Srijem County. It borders the municipalities of Nuštar and Bogdanovci in the north, the municipalities of Tompojevci and Nijemci in the east and southeast, the municipality of Privlaka and the town of Otok in the south, and the town of Vinkovci in the west. The municipality of Stari Jankovci has five settlements: Stari Jankovci, Novi Jankovci, Slakovci, Orolik and Srijemske Laze. The work itself consists of several units. It deals with the legislative and theoretical framework of local government, and then focuses on functioning in practice, on the example of the municipality of Stari Jankovci.
