There are more displaced people in the world every day, at least 100 million people that were forced to leave their homes. The most common reasons for that were unemployment, low standard of living, food shortage or hunger, but also war circumstances. These people seek international protection in countries that will offer them better existence. Upon their arrival in the destination country, they submit a request for international protection. Currently, 4,3 million people are waiting for a positive outcome of their asylum application. When the seeker gets granted asylum he becomes an asylee, i.e. refugee, according to the 1951 Refugee Convention. According to valid international documents, an asylee has the same rights like every citizen of every country. They are also obliged to obey the constitution, laws and other legal documents in the recipient country. Just like other EU countries, the Republic of Croatia is a part of a current refugee crisis. Even though Croatia is a transit country for refugees, it recorded 33% more offences of The Law on Foreigners. Most of them want to illegally cross the country's borders. Asylum seekers see Croatia as a transit destination and turn to wester EU countries. Migratory movements have been very apparent over the last ten years, and all countries are facing the same challenge – how to respond to the migrant crisis. Every country has to protect its borders, but at the same time, respect international treaties and conventions, and apply valid legal regulations.
