Osteoporosisis a health condition characterized by loss of bone density, disruption of its structure and subsequent loss of mineralization of bones which leads to loss of elasticity and firmness while adding to the risk of more frequent fractures. Osteoporosis is one of the greatest problems of public health and it requires for the health workers to educate the population about the importance of influence of certain risk factors on the development of osteoporosis. World Health Organization emphasizes the importance of recognizing osteoporosis as a “quiet epidemic” which mostly appears without any overt symptoms. Improper diet and exposure to different risk factors increases the risk of developing osteoporosis. Majority of research proves the importance of Vitamin D and calcium for people suffering from osteoporosis, and the dosage ofVitamin D and calcium differs from county to country making the research emphasize the importance of proper diet as a basis for helping people suffering from osteoporosis. Physiotherapy as a part of non-pharmacological treatment combined with various physical procedures influences the improvement of functional abilities and reduction of pain for people affected by osteoporosis. Professionally led physical activity of the correct intensity and extensity positively influences the mineral bone density while slowing down and reducing natural loss of bone mass in adults. Consequently, bone breakage and fractures caused by osteoporosis inolder people are prevented by regular physical activity.
