Abstract
Pojam demencija označava stanje kod kojeg je kod osobe prisutan poremećaj sadržaja svijesti uz potpunu očuvanu budnost. Alzheimerova demencija (AD) odnosi se na određeni početak i tijek kognitivnog i funkcionalnog pada povezanog s dobi zajedno s određenom neuropatologijom. AD se smatra multifaktorskom bolešću povezanom s nekoliko čimbenika rizika. Glavni rizik je dob. AD ima različite karakteristike u različitim stadijima bolesti. Često se pacijenti prvo žale na glavobolje, vrtoglavice, popuštanje radnih sposobnosti, a raspoloženje bude lagano depresivno obojeno, što su sve jako netipični simptomi. Osnova dijagnoze AD-a ostaje klinička procjena, a posebno klinički intervju s pacijentom i osobom koja je zaslužna za prijenos informacija liječnika, te kognitivnim i fizičkim usredotočenim pregledom. Djelotvoran lijek za liječenje AD-a za sada još nije poznat. AD ne ostavlja samo veliki teret na osobu kojoj je dijagnosticirana, već na cijelu obitelj ili osobu koja skrbi o njoj. Osim financijskih poteškoća, bolest često predstavlja veliki emocionalni teret za bolesnikovu obitelj.
Abstract (english)
The term dementia refers to a condition in which a person has a disorder of the content of consciousness with fully preserved alertness. Alzheimer’s dementia (AD) refers to a specific onset and course of cognitive and functional decline associated with acquisition along with a particular neuropathology. AD is considered a multifactorial disease associated with several risk factors. The main risk is age. AD has different characteristics at different stages of the disease. Often patients first complain of headache, dizziness, loss of ability to work, and the mood gets slightly depressed, which are all very atypical symptoms. The basis for diagnosing AD remains a clinical assessment, especially a clinical interview with the patient and the person responsible for transmitting the information to physicians, and a cognitive and physically focused examination. An effective medicine to treat AD is not yet known. AD leaves not only a great burden on the person diagnosed with it, but on the whole family or the person caring for them. In addition to financial difficulties, the illness often represents a great emotional burden for a the family.
