Handball is a sport whose popularity has been increasing in recent years among all genders and age groups but injuries are an integral part of it, as in any sport. In addition to physical injuries, every sports injury also has a great psychological impact on the athlete, that is why injury prevention should be the main component in every sport and sports training. In handball, emphasis should be on prevention due to the characteristics of the sport itself and its specific requirements. For prevention to be effective, it is important to determine the most common injuries in handball so that attention can be directed to them and so athletes can have the most optimal conditions for achieving top results. In addition to determining the most frequent injuries, it is also important to determine the mechanisms of their occurrence so that the injuries can be solved, not their outcomes. Although handball is a contact sport, due to changes in handball rules and their tightening, injuries often occur without contact, which means that emphasis should be on the better physical preparation of the athlete himself and the removal of intrinsic factors that could affect it. The goal of this review was to determine the most common injuries in handball and the mechanisms of their occurrence by searching databases and listing their prevention methods.
