Abstract
Multipla skleroza (MS) je kronična, progresivna bolest središnjeg živčanog sustava (SŽS). Etiologija same bolesti još uvijek nije dovoljno istražena. Bolest se češće pojavljuje u žena nego u muškaraca i to u mlađoj životnoj dobi između 20 – te i 40 – te godine života. Oko 2,5 milijuna ljudi boluje od multiple skleroze. Uzrok ove bolesti nije još istražen, no smatra se kako na nastanak utječe okolišni čimbenik, genetska predispozicija te autoimunost. Simptomi variraju od teških do blagih. Neki od najčešćih simptoma su: trnci, oštećenje vida, umor, slabost koordinacije, problemi s ravnotežom, slabost te drugi. Današnja dijagnostika uključuje fizikalni pregled, uzimanje anamneze, laboratorijski testovi, magnetska rezonanca te analizi cerebrospinalnog likvora. Liječenje se prvenstveno provodi s lijekovima, dok se kasnije primjenjuje hidroterapija, TENS, fizioterapijske vježbe, galvanizacija, krioterapija te drugi postupci. Fizioterapija zauzima važno mjesto u liječenju oboljelih od multiple skleroze.
Abstract (english)
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, progressive disease of the central nervous system. Etiology of the disease itself has not yet been sufficiently researched. The disease appears more often in women than in men, especially in early period in life, between age 20 and 40. Around 2,5 million people suffer from multiple sclerosis. The cause of this disease has not yet been researched, but it is believed that the cause lies in environmental factors, genetic predisposition and autoimmunity. Symptoms vary from severe to mild. Some of the most common symptoms are tingling, damaged vision,fatique, poor coordination, balance problems, weakness and others. Today's diagnostics include a physical examination, anamnesis taking, laboratory tests, magnetic resonance and cerebrospinal fluid analysis. The treatment is primarily carried out with the use of drugs, while hydrotherapy, TENS, physiotherapy exercises, galvanization, cryotherapy and other procedures are applied later. Physiotherapy has an important role in for treating patients with multiple sclerosis.
