A scaphoid fracture is the most common fracture of carpal bones. They represent 11% of all upper extremity fractures. In most cases, the mechanism of injury is a fall onto an outstretched hand, namely axial compression whereby palmar ligaments are exposed to tension force activity. Injuries occur during sports activities or by falling from a height. Scaphoid fractures can be divided into dislocated and non-dislocated fractures, as well as fractures of the proximal, waist and distal pole. The most reliable sign of injury is a localized pain, swelling and anatomical snuffbox palpation pain. Radiography, bone scan and magnetic resonance are also used for confirmation of diagnosis, as well as ultrasound for diagnosing unconfirmed fractures. Nonoperative techniques are applied for most of the non-dislocated fractures, although lately, the application of operative techniques for unstable and dislocated fractures has had a lot more basis for its use. When the scaphoid fracture is confirmed, one of the main management techniques is a proper immobilization cast of carpal bones, thumb, forearm and elbow in order to prevent wrist function, as well as pronation and supination movements. In order for a client to recover successfully, it is necessary to start rehabilitation as earlier as possible with a goal of returning a full range of motion and strength. Accordingly, the physiotherapist performs an active and a passive range of motion exercises so that the patient can perform everyday activities. Prevention of complication and pain syndromes is also important for client's rehabilitation. Physiotherapist educates the patient with the aim of avoiding falling and potential injuries, avoiding sports activities that cause overloading of the palm, as well as preventing possible infections.
