Osteoarthritis is the most common rheumatic disease belonging to the group of chronic, degenerative diseases. It is a progressive chronic disease that affects all joint structures. The disease has multifactorial etiopathogenesis, and the exact cause of the disease has not yet been discovered, so there is no targeted therapy for its treatment and prevention. The knee joint is one of the most complex and largest joints in the human body that carries the weight load of the whole body and is therefore subject to injuries and damage such as cartilage deterioration and the development of osteoarthritis of the joint itself. Although the treatment of patients with osteoarthritis includes various interventions, in principle it includes non-pharmacological or conservative treatment, pharmacological and surgical treatment. The basis of non-pharmacological, conservative treatment is lifestyle changes and physical therapy with the aim of permanently adopting the exercise habit. Methods such as hydrotherapy, thermotherapy, electrotherapy and medical gymnastics are most often used in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee. These methods aim to reduce the unpleasant symptoms of the disease itself and prolong the further development of the disease itself. The use of kinesiotaping in physiotherapy methods can greatly alleviate the symptoms of osteoarthritis of the knee and make life easier for people suffering from this disease.
