Abstract
Hrana koju ljudi unose u organizam direktno utječe na sve aspekte ljudskog zdravlja. Makronutrijenti, poput ugljikohidrata, masti i bjelančevina osiguravaju tijelu energiju koja mu je potrebna da normalno funkcionira u svakodnevnom životu. Mikronutrijenti, vitamini i minerali iznimno su bitni za zdravlje našeg organizma i potrebni su ljudskom tijelu u malim količinama. Fitokemikalije su među najvažnijim, ako ne i najvažniji, mikronutrijentima, jer su najbrojniji od svih mikronutrijenta te imaju brojne pozitivne učinke na ljudsko zdravlje. Stoga, da bi ljudi očuvali zdravlje i živjeli život bez bolesti moraju u svoj organizam unositi raznovrsnu hranu, kako bi unijeli različite fitokemikalije koje imaju protektivnu ulogu te osigurali organizmu energiju potrebnu za tjelesne aktivnosti.
Abstract (english)
Food that people consume has direct impact on all aspects of human health. Macronutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats and proteins provide energy that is required for body to function normally in everyday life. Micronutrients, vitamins and minerals, are of great importance to human health and the body needs them in very small amounts. Phytochemicals are among the most important, if not the most important, micronutrients because they are the most numerous of them all and they have diverse positive effects on human health. If people want to preserve health and live a disease-free life they must eat a whole different variety of foods in order to provide different phytochemicals, which have protective role and to ensure enough energy necessary for physical activities.
