The subject of this paper are the principles of environmental protection in the European Union. The principles include, namely, the precautionary principle, the prevention principle, the principle of eliminating environmental damage as a matter of priority at source, and the polluter pays principle. The third chapter of this paper discusses the principle of sustainable development, where it can be said that sustainable development means preserving the physical and social environment and applying the concept of sustainability which is vital for tourism, while less indicates various other activities, just because tourism depends on preserved nature which is the basic resource. The fourth chapter talks about the "Precautionary Principle" is the basis of sustainable development, which requires that development activity must be stopped and prevented if it causes serious and irreversible damage to the environment. Chapter 5 explains the principle of the value of natural assets, biodiversity and landscapes. Natural goods and landscape values should be preserved at the level of volume and quality that do not endanger human health and life and are not harmful to flora and fauna. The soil is non-renewable and must be used sustainably while preserving its functions. Adverse effects on the soil must be avoided as much as possible. Chapter 6 explains the principle of replacement and / or replacement, Chapter 7 explains the principle of elimination and remediation of environmental damage at the source and the principle of completeness of the approach. The principle of cooperation, the "polluter pays" principle, the principle of access to information and public participation will then be explained in Chapter Ten. Chapter Eleven explains the principle of incentive, while Chapter Twelve explains the right of access to justice and the principle of general compensation.
