After a traumatic event that does not belong to the usual shell of experience develops a disorder in a certain number of people, the term PTSD was first defined in 1980. His description has changed but reactions to traumatic events have been known for centuries. Unhealthy forms of reactions to trauma include post-traumatic stress disorder, abbreviated PTSD, which is an anxiety disorder whose occurrence is associated with trauma. Like other disorders caused by stress, PTSD affects the general health of the patient and reduces his functionality at the social and work level. General features are the development of characteristic symptoms that are a response to a stressful event or situation of a threatening trait. Determining the correct diagnosis of PTSD is not easy. Associated comorbidity is often encountered and the diagnosis itself is based on the patient's subjective history. Treatment is not easy and does not guarantee the complete disappearance of symptoms, but works to reduce the frequency and intensity. This paper describes what post-traumatic stress disorder is, its diagnostic criteria, life events that affect the disease itself and only its treatment, course and prognosis.
